Physician Spotlight on Dr. Howard Wu

How did you get interested in orthopedics and sports medicine?

I was always involved in athletics in my younger years, but my true interest in orthopedics came later. I decided to become an orthopedist when I was volunteering at an orthopedic hospital as a high school student and really enjoyed my experience there.

What is your practice philosophy?

I pride myself on listening to my patients and considering all factors before recommending a tailored treatment plan. I enjoy getting people back to their lifestyles and restoring their ability to do everyday functions.

I stay up to date on the latest advancements in orthopedics, including things like minimally invasive surgery. There has been a strong trend toward more minimally invasive surgeries in orthopedics, and these surgeries reduce damage to the surrounding, healthy soft tissue.

What are your personal interests?

I enjoy staying active. I’m a proud husband and father of three boys and we live locally. It’s wonderful to be able to live and work here because you develop solid relationships with community members and their families.

What is your favorite part of your job?

It brings me a lot of joy to see my patients return to their highest level of functioning. It is inspiring to see patients who previously had a great deal of pain and limited mobility become a better, happier version of themselves.
